In the recent publication by author Ken Hickson, Race for Sustainability: Energy, Economy, Environment and Ethics, Chapter 32 features a profile of Douglas Woodring and a discussion about "How can the oceans cope with plastic waste?"

This chapter contributes to the discussion about sustainability by addressing the broad impact that plastic use and management can have on our industries and environmental health.  Highlighting what has been achieved in countries such as Japan, this chapter focuses on the amount of opportunities to improve our waste management in favour of our oceans.
